Your Questions Answered

Find out more about how Kelly Leigh Coaching can help you achieve your goals.

What is the difference between coaching and counselling?

Coaching focuses on setting and achieving specific goals, while counselling addresses emotional and psychological issues. Generally, coaching looks forward and empowers you to plan for and embrace your future. If you have unresolved past trauma counselling may be helpful before embarking on a coaching programme.

How do I know if I need a coach or a counsellor?

If you’re looking to achieve specific goals, or improve performance, a Life Coach is ideal. If you need help with emotional or mental health issues, often involving past traumas, a counsellor is more appropriate. Grief Coaching is appropriate after any loss as your reaction is normal and natural. If however that relationship or situation involved trauma counselling first would be helpful.

What can I expect from a coaching session and how can it help me?

During a coaching session, you’ll work with your grief, life or sleep coach collaboratively to identify goals, create action plans, and overcome obstacles. Coaching empowers you to set clear goals, improve self-confidence, and achieve desired outcomes. Grief Coaching is very effective as grief is a normal and natural state that can be helped with actionable strategies related to moving forward and rebuilding life after loss.

How long does a coaching program last?

The length of a life coaching program varies depending on individual needs and goals but typically ranges from two months to a year. My initial programme is two months but this can be extended if you have further goals you want to achieve. Grief Coaching is initially one month and then reviewed to see what you need going forward. Sleep coaching is also one month but can be extended as needed.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes, all coaching sessions are confidential. Your privacy is of utmost importance to me. The only exception would be a disclosure that relates to safeguarding.

Can coaching be done online?

Absolutely. I offer in-person and online coaching sessions to accommodate your schedule and preferences, enabling me to practice worldwide. I have also incorporated walk and talk into my programme for those who would like to get out and about in nature and enjoy the benefits this brings to your health and well-being.

One of the benefits of online coaching is you can stay in your PJ’s, you do you, be comfy!

What are the benefits of grief coaching?

As a grief coach, I provide personalised support based on the unique needs and circumstances of the individual. This tailored approach helps address specific emotions and mental and practical grief-related challenges. I offer a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can express your feelings freely. This outlet is crucial for processing grief and preventing bottled-up emotions. I will validate your feelings and help you to understand that your emotions are normal and part of the healing process. I offer practical tools and strategies to help you cope with loss. These can include mindful techniques, journaling, and other therapeutic activities that promote healing. Grief disrupts daily routines and responsibilities. I will assist you in managing your day-to-day activities, which helps restore a sense of normalcy and functionality much faster than if you don’t do the programme.

Does sleep coaching work?

That depends. If you don’t follow the programme, it doesn’t work. If you do, it does.

Sleep coaching is an effective method for improving sleep, particularly for children who struggle with sleep issues. Sleep coaching helps establish consistent bedtime routines, which are crucial for signalling to the body that it’s time to sleep. Consistency helps to regulate the body’s internal clock. I educate parents on the best practices for promoting healthy sleep habits in children, often I just hold them accountable for what they already know.

I teach understanding sleep cycles, recognising sleep cues, and creating a conducive sleep environment amongst other things. By providing parents with tools and strategies I empower them to address sleep issues confidently and effectively. Numerous studies have supported the effectiveness of behavioural sleep interventions. For example, a study published in the journal Paediatrics found that behavioural interventions were effective in reducing sleep problems in young children and improving parents’ mental health and wellbeing.
